Call for Papers: Inaugural Issue
Artificial Intelligence & Cognitive Studies (AICS) is now accepting submissions for its founding issue. This inaugural call represents a distinctive moment for researchers working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and cognitive science, a window of opportunity that will not repeat itself.
The Inaugural Advantage
The launch phase of any serious scholarly venue creates unique conditions for contributors. For this first issue, we are implementing an acceptance rate of 30%, substantially higher than the progressively stricter thresholds we will adopt as the journal matures and develops its reputation. This is not a compromise on quality; rather, it reflects our commitment to building a diverse founding collection that establishes the breadth and rigor of our interdisciplinary scope.
Submissions to the inaugural issue will receive expedited review, with first decisions delivered within 10 days of submission. Authors accepted into this founding cohort will benefit from priority placement, enhanced discoverability as the journal establishes its indexing presence, and association with the formative phase of a venue designed for longevity. As our submission volume increases and our editorial standards sharpen in subsequent cycles, the comparative advantage of this inaugural window will become increasingly apparent.
A Frictionless Publication Model
AICS operates without article processing charges. There are no fees: not now, not ever. Every accepted manuscript receives open access publication with full Creative Commons licensing, immediate indexing on Google Scholar, and soon proper ISSN and DOI assignment. The submission process itself has been streamlined: authors upload a single manuscript file, and our editorial team handles the rest. No formatting gymnastics, no institutional subscription barriers, no financial gatekeeping.
This model delivers what researchers actually need: rapid, rigorous review with constructive feedback, followed by immediate global dissemination. From submission to first decision takes 10 days. From acceptance to publication, the timeline compresses further. The traditional friction points, cost, access restrictions, formatting requirements, lengthy review cycles have been systematically removed.
Scope and Standards
We seek rigorous empirical investigations, experimental studies, theoretically grounded conceptual papers, and well-argued position papers that advance our understanding of cognitive architectures, human-AI alignment, interpretability, reasoning mechanisms, language and communication across systems, and the ethical dimensions of cognitive artificial intelligence. We encourage submissions that document negative results, challenge prevailing assumptions, and expose methodological limitations. Transparency and intellectual honesty are valued as highly as novelty and technical sophistication.
The Cost of Delay
This inaugural acceptance rate of 30% represents a time-bounded condition. As AICS builds its reputation and submission pipeline grows, selection will necessarily become more competitive. Manuscripts submitted after the inaugural issue closes will face the standard, more selective criteria we are implementing for volume sustainability. The decision to submit now versus waiting for "one more revision cycle" carries meaningful strategic implications for authors considering where to place their work.
Submission Information
We are accepting submissions on a rolling basis until inaugural issue capacity is reached. Given anticipated demand and finite space, early submission is advisable. Manuscripts undergo simple-blind peer review with decisions rendered within 10 days of submission. Authors should consult our submission guidelines for formatting requirements and ethical standards.
AICS maintains rigorous peer review standards, upholds methodological transparency, and operates according to open science principles. We welcome work that advances knowledge through evidence, regardless of whether findings align with existing paradigms.
